Hydraulic mosaics became a decorative and distinctive icon of Barcelona during the modernist period. Many catalan architects contributed to the expansion of this particular tile for houses and landmarks of the city. Antoni Gaudí himself designed the floor that currently paves the sidewalks of Passeig de Gràcia and the Casa Milà.
In the sixties the use of this particular tile in the elaboration of floors and walls ended, and became a feature of the old houses of these time. Despite the years, the original mosaics have not lost their charm and now the architectural trend contemplates again this decoration.
The typical manufacturing process was handmade and laborious, the tiles were individually worked for days. Despite the progress that separates us from those times, this process has not changed significantly, as by this technique output quality is unsurpassed.
Currently, few companies offer a specialized service of cleaning, treatment and recovery of these mosaics, which are characterized by requiring a delicate treatment that uses non-abrasive products and neutral soaps. In addition, depending on the state it may requires more intensive care, this is the case of worn floors of bars, hotels, restaurants or very old houses.
We believe that such an important element of our culture should be treated and preserved as necessary. For this reason La Mar de Net, who are unfamiliar with this type of floor, offers a specialized service of cleaning in the treatment of hydraulic mosaics.
